TENPIN BOWLROCHDALE I blogged about this place in November ,the doorway has still not been altered to allow access to and from  the disabled toilet .Whilst all other disabled facilities are good this issue just lets it down. R.M.B.C . Near where I live some works were done on the pavement and road over the holiday period which involved removing a dropped kerb section before relaying the tarmac. Unfortunately,they did not put the dropped kerb back which means I cannot get to the shops as the power chair cannot climb a four inch step.I spoke to the highways dept-to no avail.My local councillor is also dealing with this problem,but as yet no result! see blog of sixth November. This superb eating place has put a ramp outside for disabled access.Well worth a visit ,the food is first class.It would be good to think the blog is having some impact! The good,the bad and the .....

This blog is about recent experiences with different organisations and businesses so, let's start with THE GOOD MOTABILITY. This charity supplied the WAV. They are as professional as it gets.If you have the opportunity to use them I am confident you will be very satisfied. ALLIED MOBILITY Are the WAVconverters, helpful every step of  the way. I had a problem getting the powerchair up the ramp and into the WAV when it was wet. Allied solved it by providing self adhesive pads, similar to  coarse sandpaper which stick to the ramp and give the tyres extra grip. METROLINK The Manchester tram system is ideal for the wheelchair traveller. The platforms have level access with the trams and there are bays on each tram for disabled passengers to stay in their wheelchairs or powerchairs and enjoy the panoramic views. NO ACCESS ALL AREAS

Our beloved council has recently spent a fortune on opening the river that runs through the centre of town, presumably to make it a tourist attraction. In the process we have lost upwards of 30 disabled parking spaces and the road has been closed off  with large concrete bollards. A river runs through it   Lovely , but I cannot park close enough to have a good look!! Where have all these parking spaces gone?? I spoke to 3 different departments at the council about this very question and not one of them could give an answer.. In fact one lady did not even know that these disabled spaces were gone. While we are on the topic of the local council - why are their receptionists selling R.A.D.A.R. keys to non-disabled people? I know they are cash-strapped but.... Thanks to the council for putting in a dropped kerb to gain access to my local park . But why did it take 6 months?? MOTO SERVICES BIRCH M62. Have WAV will travel

Having this wheelchair adapted vehicle-to be known as a WAV-is great. I no longer have to rely on lifts. To celebrate this new found freedom I went on a short break in July for the first time in 8 years. Destination- The Crown Hotel, Harrogate. From the first telephone call to the final wave goodbye, the whole experience was a great success. There was reserved disabled parking outside the main entrance which also has level access to the hotel. All areas had easy access including restaurants,bars and lounges. There was a spacious lift that look us and the powerchair up our first floor bedroom. The manager introduced himself to us and made us very welcome. Together we completed a health and safety document and he showed us where the evacchairs were and explained the emergency procedure in case of a fire.                                                            The Crown Hotel  On the other hand!!! The Powerchair Ranger

This is my very first blog and the aim is to share my good and bad experiences as a double amputee using a powerchair. I use two methods of transport, a WAV courtesy of Motability and a Jazzy powerchair. The Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle gets me from place to place and the powerchair lets me go into buildings, such as the cinema, restaurants and shops. The aim of this blog is to highlight the good and bad experiences I encounter on a daily basis. This is just one example. Think before you park! Don't park in front of a dropped kerb as  powerchairs can't climb steps!! A simple thing that can make such a difference.
